Profile in Perserverance: Tom's Coffee Cards & Gifts

When he opened the doors for the first time on June 3, 1982, we can only imagine both the excitement and fear of the unknown going through the mind of owner, Tom Kelleher.  It was clearly a different time and place economically in Broome County, and Binghamton, in particular.

Initially, his goal was to bring the Binghamton area consumer the finest quality gourmet coffee available.  This was prior to the nationwide expansion of Starbucks to the East Coast and before many people even knew what gourmet coffee was.  The shop quickly expanded to include a line of gourmet foods ranging from biscotti, cookies, pestos, tapanades and handmade chocolate truffles.

Tom wasn't satisfied with leaving it at that.  He soon began developing a way to showcase the wares of local craftsmen.  This initiative quickly earned the shop the reputation of being a craft gallery and quickly they were representing the work of over 350 craftsmen from the world over. Tom
personally travels the globe to find the most unique gifts available.  His personal selections for the shop run the gamut from jewelry, pottery, hand blown glass and much, much more.

Did the success of this expansion satisfy Tom?  Of course not.  The shop further expanded into women's clothing.  The shop has a selection for every woman's taste and budget.  They quickly became the single largest supplier of prom dresses in the area combining the finest quality at prices affordable for every budget.

What is next for Tom's Coffee Cards and Gifts?  We do not know but we're sure there is something in the works.  You don't continue to be successful in business for close to 31 years without perseverance.

  1. Hmm it appears like your blog ate my first comment (it was super long) so I guess I'll just sum it up what I submitted and say, I'm thoroughly enjoying your blog.
I too am an aspiring blog writer but I'm still new to everything. Do you have any tips and hints for beginner blog writers? I'd definitely
    appreciate it.
